Healthcare's Great Wireless Transformation

By Jeff Kagan

E-Commerce Times

08/19/10 5:00 AM PT

If pharmaceutical companies and physicians can harness the power of
wireless devices, they can communicate with patients from the moment a
prescription is written, using proven tools like educational starter
kits delivered via email, live prescription reminder outreach calls,
and interactive voice response messages that provide prescription
information and lifestyle tips.

About 15 years ago, I had an office next door to Barry Green. At the
time, our businesses had nothing in common. I was a wireless analyst
and he was in healthcare. I recently got a call out of the blue from
Barry asking for my help in evaluating an opportunity. When I took a
look at what he was doing, I realized the world has changed
dramatically. Suddenly, our previously unrelated businesses of wireless
and healthcare were crashing together.

This is true not only for healthcare, but also for many other
industries as well. They are all. . .

Why AT&T and Comcast Are Changing Their Brands

By Jeff Kagan

E-Commerce Times

08/12/10 5:00 AM PT

A new wave of competition in the marketplace has begun. The phone
companies' IPTV services and satellite television companies like
DirecTV and DISH are competing with the cable television industry for
the big all-or-nothing bundle. It's a battle for the whole consumer.
The space will change completely over the next several years, and this
changing marketplace represents an incredible opportunity and threat
for every competitor.

After giving a speech, I was asked a question that got me thinking.
Many of you may be wondering about this too. AT&T (NYSE: T) and Comcast
(Nasdaq: CMCSK) have two of the strongest brand names in the business
-- so why in the world are they both suddenly changing them? What are
we, as customers and investors, not aware of?

AT&T's new brand is "Rethink Possible" and Comcast's is "Xfinity." One
is a brand remake, and the other is a master brand remake, which means

Will the BlackBerry Torch Save RIM?

By Jeff Kagan

E-Commerce Times

08/05/10 5:00 AM PT

One thing I noticed at the Torch event was new for RIM. It was put
together to generate lots of energy, but I did not sense the kind of
excitement I expected. This was RIM's attempt, but it is just a quieter
personality. More business-oriented. That has served the company well
over the years -- and there's nothing really was wrong with that
approach -- but things are changing.

AT&T Is Winning Its Catch-Up Race

By Jeff Kagan

E-Commerce Times

07/29/10 5:00 AM PT

AT&T focused on smartphones before it was cool. Before everyone else
did. Many thought it was nuts. However, that is the direction the
industry is now heading in, and it is paying off for AT&T. Nuts may be
good. AT&T is about to start realizing the payoff from its heavy
network investments, and millions of customers are about to start
feeling a lot happier about their carrier.

About the Companies and Technologies Kagan Worked With and Follows Over 25
Years

Kagan has worked as an industry analyst and consultant with and
followed all the major competitors in local and long distance
telephone, wireless and cellular space, and as the industry continues
to transform itself he now follows and has worked with many of
companies in the cable television and IPTV, computers, operating
systems and Internet space.

This includes telephone, computer, TV, as well as equipment makers,
handset and smart-phone makers, computer manufacturers, OS Operating
System and software makers.

Kagan follows the larger changing industry from a high level. Watching
the transforming industry and opportunities, tracking the winners and
the losers and watching what is coming next that will transform the
marketplace over the next few years.

Starting out 25 years ago following the long distance industry, he has
been part of the changing industry through the long distance battles,
the local phone company competition, the changing wireless industry,
the explosive and rule breaking Internet and now television with the
new competition between telephone companies and cable television
companies for the 'whole-customer'.

Stories and reports Kagan writes are either general about the changing
industry, or specific about individual companies. He has worked with
many companies from time-to-time over the years. If he writes about a
company he is currently working with Kagan makes that clear in his
writing.

Winners and losers have changed dramatically over the years. Many
companies who were winners in an industry 10 years ago no longer exist.
Today the leaders seem bullet-proof, but suddenly new competitors in
the smart-phone space are changing the rules and economics of the
entire business. Who will the winners be in the next several years?

The industry continues to transform itself every few years. We are in
the middle of another transformation right now. This started a few
short years ago and has the power not only to change the industry
leaders, but to transform the economics of the business going forward.
How will this impact the telephone, the wireless, the television, the
Internet and the computer space. The answer is very dramatically.

The question is, who will be the leaders be in a few short years in
this take-no-prisoners war currently being waged.

variety of projects.

He is an analyst, author, speaker, market researcher, and report

Before we discuss working together it is important to meet and get to

next steps. Kagan does not work with every company. In fact he says no
to most simply because it is not a good match.

However if you want to discuss the possibility he invites you to
contact him.

wide variety of companies (see list below).

He tries to help everyone. He travels, attends meetings and
conferences, participates in conference calls and so on. He writes
books and reports and give speeches.

In addition, he works with and learns about many companies. They
contact him and he learns how they compare and compete and how they are
changing the marketplace.

He then uses what he has learned from a wide variety of meetings with
many companies and helps others better understand. Others like
customers and prospects, the media, investors, regulators and
employees.

He shares what he is thinking with everyone in his columns, speeches,
discussions with the media, books and so on.

He earns a living in a variety of ways including speakers fees and
working with some companies on a retainer basis. He writes reports and
books either sponsored by companies or purchased by the reader.
